Holy Week

The Union Church in Waban

Dear church,

Tomorrow begins the triduum, the holiest time in the Christian liturgical calendar. From evening on Maundy Thursday through Easter Sunday, we gather to remember, to retell the stories of Jesus, and to immerse ourselves in the heart of our faith. In that heart, we find ourselves dwelling with our God who loved us enough to come among us and experience human life in the fullness of joy and pain; dwelling with our God who loved us too much to let pain and death be the end of the story. Below, I’ve listed the events held at UCW, and some suggestions for events in other communities at times when we will not gather. I hope you will join for these services and gatherings in this holy time, and I pray that each and every one of you experience the blessings of Holy Week accompaniment and Easter joy.

Peace,
Megan

Maundy Thursday

Service of Communion and Tenebrae, Memorial Chapel

At 7:00 p.m.

This service, held in person only, will center around a commemoration of the Last Supper, and a candle-lit service of sharing scripture and song in the Taizé community tradition.

Good Friday

Youth Group Interfaith Visit, Hebrew Senior Life in Dedham

At 2:00 p.m. (arriving in Dedham for a 2:30pm service)

As we grapple with some of the challenging narratives of Good Friday, including those that have led to antisemitism and violence, we will gather with Jewish elders (including some holocaust survivors) at Hebrew Senior Life in Dedham for Shabbat service. We will gather at the church and carpool together. Please let Pastor Amy know if you plan to attend.

Holy Saturday

Art, Eggs & Snacks, Littlehale Room - Donations Welcome!

At 1:00 p.m.

Remembering the women who prepared to anoint Jesus’ body after burial, we’ll spend some time together this quiet Saturday working with the pottery our community has made throughout Lent, preparing it for transformation on Easter morning.

We'll also stuff Easter eggs and welcome donations of candy (individually-wrapped, no nuts), stickers, or other goodies to put in them. If you can help, please leave any donations outside Pastor Amy's office or email her ([email protected]). Thank you!

Easter Sunday

Sunrise Service

At 6:15 a.m.

The birds will preach the sermon as on that first Easter morning, and we’ll celebrate Jesus’ resurrection at the dawning of the new day. Pastor Amy and Greg Feldman will lead in joyful worship and song.
We'll meet in the Wellesley Office Park, behind the building at 45 Williams Street (click to see a map - it's on the opposite side of the Charles River from Quinobequin Rd.). After you turn onto 45 Williams, go under the building and look to your right - you'll see an entrance to the Charles River Reservoir. Park and walk down the path until you find Crowley's Landing. The path is fully wheelchair and stroller accessible. Please call Pastor Amy's cell (617-938-8112) if you have trouble finding us.
